| Advance payments in computer systems of algebra force traditional methods for training mathematics of college to look very become outdated. |

Often times I hear the students asking: “Can I use the calculator?” My constant answer "No", and now when I think of it, it - because the traditional training philosophy specifies, that you, do not require the calculator when you should calculate integral. Besides, as teachers, we use to assume immediately that it’s all about “mental laziness”.
Well, I should recognise, that times have changed, and it seems, that - now correct time to correspond to miracles which the science and technics should offer. Occurrence of very strong Computer Systems Algebras (FAILURE) results to all of us of more reasons to switch training styles in a new paradigm where ideas are presented together with real visual mashinno-generated representations and where the accent is placed in concepts, instead of symbolical manipulation.
For example, in typical first college of year the Calculation class, is required big effort to be run through a number of methods which help students to understand integration. Those methods are clearly mechanical and repeated, but it is necessary students, hardly understanding the main ideas. Now, the software as Mathematica and others is capable to solve symbolically some very difficult integrals which go a way of that the skilled first student of calculation of year can make.
Shouldn’t We place emphasis on concepts, instead of on calculations? In the mathematician it is difficult to separate, because these two go strongly together. But I certainly believe, that we would derive benefit, entering regularly FAILURE use in a class room. There’s the tendency in the majority of colleges to enter computer appointments as a part of curricula, but from my experience, students do not receive the majority from this. All of them still do not see the computer as the friendly ally during mathematics studying. But, they with pleasure would agree on the calculator.
The FAILURE future should include also a way to use all this "intelligence", was in the habit to solve challenges to also to be capable to "explain", how to arrive to the answer. |
