Granite for working surfaces and house signs: Only, how proof colouring is it?
The author: Steve Walker
With increasing use of a granite for kitchen working surfaces and my current signs of the house of a speciality, I had recently a reason to consider only how proof colouring is a natural granite?

I was a stone and the marble mason within forty years and for all my service life, I was we will gain about storage of the potential colouring creating products from my seminar and is far from my stocks of a stone, marble and granitov. It therefore follows, that my experience of the damaged materials of colouring have been limited by rare accidents for these years. And the majority of them has involved marble, actually I was incapable to recollect a unique case when we had an example of granite colouring.

With increasing use of a granite for kitchen working surfaces and my current signs of the house of a speciality, I had recently a reason to consider only how proof colouring is a natural granite?

To try to answer this question, I adjusted small experiment to try to enter purposely damage of colouring of a part of a granite, using the products found in average kitchen.

Experiment:
I used a part of granite Impaly of 20 mm in the thickness Nero with highly polished person. Impala Nero - strained grained, the middle to a dark grey spotty granite from Southern Africa. I have chosen this type of a granite, as being a typical average granite in hardness and colour terms. This part has the normal polished end was never sealed to prevent colouring.

I put a granite part on a horizontal surface indoors, and left it completely run low within several days.

I have attached many small labels through the person of a granite, and near to each label have presented one of the chosen painting agents and as I entered each new product, have written, that he names a product on an adjacent label in a pencil. (A tip: if you mark something in conditions where labels can get wet, use pencil).

I then have left a granite and painting agents to make their worst within full eighteen hours.

Painting Agents: (and their my expectations)

1. Vegetable oil: Oils always were forbidden round marble seminars and as guarantee, will paint marble. I have been assured, that these oils will leave at least damp looking colouring on a granite.,

2. At the same as vegetable oil is valid, but various oils really are various features, and the olive oil is extended at the majority of kitchens.

3. Soya sauce: I thought, a combination of dark colouring and potentially korrozijnaja the nature of a basis of vinegar will be the serious contender to yield losses

4. Vinegar: I expected, that vinegar will operate as corroding substance and at least to worsen polishing a little.

5. Beet juice: Beet juice - one of the most deadly colourings about which I know as any housewife knows, and I has been assured enough, that it will be absorbed and will leave opposite violet colouring.

6. Ketchup: Contains oil and vinegar, and the big colouring is excellent at colouring of clothes of children!

7. Damp Tea in bags: Tannin - the strong painting agent, I expected, that it will leave at least superficial colouring and the basic water mark.

8. Mine hands the Liquid: Soap will paint the marble, so definitely standing attempt.

9. Scotch whisky: do not panic! I used a cheap material of cookery. I really was the authorised representative, that it will worsen polishing. On marble any strong spirit of alcohol will cut through a surface, polish so, I assumed, that the same will be true for a granite.

10. Red wine: All of us it is known, how extending red wine colourings can be. And any justification seems good to open a new bottle!

11. Lemonade: you can be suprised to know, that lemonade also will destroy polishing on marble if is left long enough, more than eighteen hours, I have been assured enough, that it would make a few damages of a granite.

12. White wine: Well I did not think, that it will do something bad, but it has been opened anyhow!

13. Sauce of Sharp seasoning: Hey! This material burns down throats as something so, why not a granite?

14. A lemon juice: very sour it is final, and if lemonade achieves the objective a tidy lemon juice, should work even better (or is worse depending on your point of view!).

15. Half of Orange: Lemon acid and orange dye, should be interesting.

Well it is party, I was the nice authorised representative, that oil, a beet and whisky will cause a few damages, but I have not been assured of others.

After these eighteen hours I have wiped the rest of various painting agents and have cleaned, a surface of a granite with normal kitchen spray the cleaner and left it is dry within ten minutes.

I then have examined a granite in a daylight for damage of polishing from korrozijnyh acids and painting from dyes, and oil based products.

Result: Anything! Any colouring of any degradation of polishing not even damp looking colourings, I has been assured, will not be caused by oils and damp agents. It was the real surprise, eighteen hours long time, and under normal internal conditions any rupture would be washed up much more likely.
It is really impressive result for a granite, but something like blow for me as I hoped to write further articles concerning removal of colourings and repeated polishing of stains of alcohol!

Nevertheless I should not be too unfriendly about it, I always was the admirer of qualities of a granite, but now I can specify colouring proof advantages of a material with the big confidence.

One protest however, is many various types of a granite, and I cannot guarantee, that this work will be so impressive with them everything, or that I have tried each colouring of potential or korrozijnyj a product, but I do not have any reason to think, that others granity are more susceptible to damage or that any other agents state the big threat.
