Six years ago my son then only two years, were is taken to Mexico by his father and to put it briefly, I was able result home it in February ’ 05. I knew, that my son will have many calls adapting by a life in the USA, one of which, circulation in school would be one of the greatest.
Kindergarten
Within weeks after arrival home, I was registered, my son in mine district’s appointed to public school for my area, and hoped for the best. It was really firm at first because the majority of public schools is not ready to address with requirements of not English students of conversation, and our school was not any exception.
Having only a few months of the Kindergarten, in the end of a year the school has decided to go forward and to transfer my son to the first grade. That summer was crunch time so to speak, and our family lived and inhaled flesh-cards almost 24/7!
The first Grade: For the first time.
The first grade has begun, and my son has made good within first three months or so then its grades have started to decrease almost immediately. When it was late, it was quickly and firmly. It has brought a grade and should repeat.
I regretted to allow it to be transferred to the first grade, but it was too late.
Summer Rupture
We read many books, at least three - four week irrespective of, how much occupied our lives were. My son already had a good power on the alphabet, its English skills of conversation have increased dramatically, and we have concentrated on sounds.
Going in the future we played games, using signs.
When we have left the house, we will choose three letters and each time when we saw any type of a sign with any of these three letters which we will tell, “Punch ABC Letters, I have received it!” I would praise the son, speaking, “You have found ‘ P ’ at a stop, ANYTHING to MYSELF”, or “You have found ‘ D ’ in Wendy’s”.
We practised colour words as red, dark blue, green, and sounds. My son would name friends and a family only to read things to them. And before I knew it, my son read words, connecting sounds, and going to enter into the first grade with skills which it should transfer.
The first Grade: In Second time
I so was afraid, when the school has started over again. I continued to observe all its grades of those papers which the teacher sent home, we studied to write down tests every night, and teacher’s requirements were strict also.
The teacher always chose weekly history which will be read every night, and it will send home the separate small book which will be read daily also. First nine weeks were a little rigid, as reading appointments were more and more more difficult quickly.
In the beginning of year all children have been checked up to estimate their level of reading, and my son has been estimated as presence of the lowest, should enter into the first grade … level 2.
Now
February, almost here and there only approximately four months of the school left in this year, plus-minus some days.
My son has jumped off from reading at level 2 to reading at level 7 this year! He can speak in English the same as, each child in its class room and its report card shows big "O" to read, that means ‘ On Grade Level ’.
Reading - the Key!
My work demands, that I worked with children in a county from age of a birth by five years of age and finally have helped parents to prepare children for a school input.
Had at me there was no this experience with my son I, do not believe, that I would be to make my work in a condition was able. I do not parents who allow me to work with their children think, that, would trust me when I speak “read to your children everyday”.
It’s, almost improbable to me, that the child who did not speak English, not even one word, could be so prolific in language as at it is …, and I work in the same way as the others do all. At It’s not as our family there were time cargoes to work with it, but we have made time.
Any who has a child who requires some additional help in school regardless of the fact that the subject, will benefit very much, sitting down with their child within only twenty minutes at least four days in a week.
We have made it and at last my son does not the feeling lost in a class more. Its report cards were phenomenal. He’s at level of a grade and he’ll proceed to the second grade next year … the ready! And that’s, that affairs. |
