As we have begun the project electronic auction PoloMercantil, we knew, that proprietary expenses of the software will be too high for our financial resources. Our unique choice then consisted in using Open software of the Initial text.
However, within the Open Initial text there are many software to choose from, and to an analyst/programmer of system to choose those the best claim the design purposes.
In our case we have chosen Linux as our operational system. However we have appeared before the big question: What distribution Linux? There is a set linux the distributions, everyone with certain advantages, sometimes with or without the paid services.
We have chosen linux Slackware because we thought, that it will satisfy better to our requirements, for stability and reliability terms. Slackware - conservative distribution, meaning, that he only offers in its nuclear versions of a package of distribution and third party libraries, as soon as it has been proved to be steady and reliable. As a result of Slackware - one steadiest operational system Linux in the market. If the user wishes new kernel Linux and libraries, we recommend to search for various distribution.
Other reason for us choosing Slackware, was because of its text interface which can become in the beginning little bit difficult, finally however it offers the best understanding of environment Linux. By the majority of configurations Slackware is made by it through text originals.
As soon as it has been established operational system, we have chosen the Apache as our server of a network. The apache - one of the most popular server of a network on the Internet. For the programming language of a server we have chosen PHP. Besides, very popular programming language. Our experience with Apache/PHP proves, that this installation is very reliable, working extremely well in sew to manufacture environment. For the programming language of the automated workplace we have chosen javascript which except that presence of simple syntax, he offers a considerable quantity of resources.
Apachsky server of a network - really full server of a network. Besides, it can become very difficult with many installations of a configuration.
For our database we have chosen Postgresql. This database became accessible to the public of more than 15 years, and besides to be well debugged, it offers many resources, that it became one of the best variants of a database from Open software of the Initial text. Extremely reliable, Postgresql has informed on cases where there were databases in manufacture with more than 4 terabytes. Besides all from which, Postresql not the most popular Open database of the Initial text. A marketing question? Possibly.
As to programming language PHP, we should use focused applied structure of object. There are many the applied structures PHP offered with the Open licence of the Initial text. The focused statement of object very important because it does programming very easy and scaled to point where the system can grow without many problems. Through use DRBD/Heartbeat we were able postpone system in manufacture within seconds, not releasing data. Answer DRBD/Heartbeat is made through use lan networks between slavish knots and a server.
Our project also uses ImageMagick (increase and reduce images), Iptables (fireproof wall), Tsearch2 (text search in portgresql) and Monday (linux the control of problems).
Also very important mention of value of library - pseudo compiler APC for PHP. Speed always - the critical factor for sites.
PoloMercantil already works and it is based on our experience, we can tell, that we have chosen Open software of the Initial text, proved to be extremely reliable and steady. Open software of the Initial text can to be certainly an excellent choice to develop websites.
