The becoming photo printing easier and faster was purpose DPOF. DPOF designates the Digital Format of the Order of the Press.
The purpose behind DPOF consisted in making process of a choice which photos to print both their press much easier and faster. If your chamber supports DPOF then, you can choose photos with which you would like to print and number of copies directly on your digital chamber. These data also are known as the order of the press and are kept in a card with memory of chambers (the same card with memory where photos are rescued) in special files. Later you can take a card with memory with photos and data DPOF to any service of the press which supports DPOF, and it automatically would print the photos based on data of the order of press DPOF. Alternatively you could include a card with memory on the printer of a photo which supports DPOF and to print all photos which you have chosen with a unique push of the button. DPOF can make much more than, only define which photos to print and in how many copies.
You can define also the additional information, such as the text of the name of a photo, photo orientation, a format of a paper of the press and is more. Other helpful information can be added: your information of contact and your parametres of adjustment of the chamber, taking a photo. Everything, that the information can make the press easier – for example, you can go down a card with memory with any service of the press, and they can know precisely which photos print, in how many copies on what formats of a paper and in what orientation.
They also have your information of contact where they can reach you when printing editions are ready or if there is any problem. Not all chambers support DPOF and what really support DPOF, change on their level of support. For example the most simple support would be to choose, what photos to print and in how many copies while more advanced support will allow other data, such as the text of the name of a photo of the name, a paper format, the information of contact and is more. DPOF has been expanded to support more than the photo press.
