All should be convinced of rules when they use an uncertain pronoun. Or, probably, all should be convinced of rules when it uses an uncertain pronoun. Or otherwise, when it or it uses... And that’s a problem. It is a lot of years, Mavens Grammar have declared, unambiguously, that uncertain pronouns (which includes all pronouns with ”- one,” “- a body,” and “- a thing” in the end just as “either,” “neither,” and "each") are always exclusive and, therefore should incorporate always to exclusive certain pronouns as “he,” “she,” “his,”, and "hers" and never with plural forms "they" or “their.”
Take the offer, “Everyone above level of the manager of department takes its own place for parking.” The simple suffices. Clear value. Except that it specifies, that all in the company - the man. If that’s true, fine, but what if it’s is not present? How you avoid beginning discrimination on a floor, when some of managers - women? Puristy grammar simplify it. They declare, categorically: "Everyone" — value “every unique one” — is exclusive, therefore, you use an exclusive pronoun. As “gender neutral” the pronoun form - the man; it, correct building, “Everyone knows its place.”
It would be fine, if it satisfied the purposes of clear communications. But it does not, first of all because this brave new century would be difficult to find many who will tell, that "he" all is a floor neutral—especially if you’re, writing about a baseball command. “On girls ’ a command, all knew, that its place,” only it seems silly.
It is good, then, puristy grammar will tell, a way to avoid, that the problem consisted in avoiding uncertain pronouns all together. Write instead, “All employees above level of the manager of department have their own places for parking.” There.
The problem is solved. Besides isn’t because the decision is based on the defective precondition. Who has told, what uncertain pronouns are always exclusive? There are those among us who believes, that "everybody" specifies the big group of bodies, “all bodies,”, instead of “every a unique body.” Others will assert us, that "they" the neutral pronoun as “he is so good floor.” Who’s to tell? Well, you could co-ordinate with Jane Austin, Willом Shakespeare, Walt Whitman, Oscar Wilde, or the Bible of king Iakova only to name a little from set who shares this last opinion.
Actually, “singular them” building comes back approximately 700 years and operated to co-exist with “neuter man's” building during bolshej parts of that time. Anybody, appear, has not been very interested to late in 1700’s or early 1800’s. That’s when "prescriptive" philologists has started to attack seriously because “singular them” did not correspond with "logic" Latin grammar in which they compelled English language. Even in the informal letter, it can be is taken either as laziness or as shortage of clear understanding of grammar. If you go this way, at least use “his or it.” It’s still a wafer, but it shows, that the reader has a choice. Also like, that do not use “his and it.”, which only makes sense, if you intend to specify, that there are two persons.

When I can avoid troubles with it, I avoid a problem and I use plural building. When you’re, writing for others to read, whether for pleasure or profit, it becomes a situation, where all should decide to take which course for (it, it, them, its/its, it or it) itself (). |
