VALENTINE / LOVE
The majority of the general line of Day Valentines these days - a mutual exchange of love notes in shape "valentines". Valentine's popular symbols of modern times include the heart-shaped scheme and number of the winged Cupid. Since 19th century congratulatory cards of mass production have substantially replaced hand-written notes. It is necessary, that almost one billion cards of Day Valentines send every year all over the world, doing it only the second-large holiday sending a card near to Christmas. Women as believe, buy approximately 85 percent of all "valentines".
Histories of many Valentines
Opinions differ about the one whom was С-Valentine. Early biographies of martyrs mention at least three С-Valentines under date from February, 14th. Everyone - the priest in Rome, other Bishop Interamna (now Terni in Italy) and another living also has died in Africa. Many, however, have opinion, that first two - the same person.
However, widely it is necessary, that Day of sacred Valentine has probably occurred from ancient Roman banquet Lupercalia. The festival has been spent on February, 15th in honour of one of their gods Lupercus, which has been called by Romans to reflect threats of those severe wolves which wandered on adjacent woods. On the eve of festival Lupercalia the love lottery in which names of the Roman girls have been written on sheets of paper has been organised and have placed in flasks. Each young man then has pulled a miss and the girl which name which it has lifted, should be its beloved within a year.
The holiday became subsequently Day of sacred Valentine after the priest by name of Valentine. When the Christianity was still new religion, Valentine was the priest in Rome. Then Emperor Klavdy II, has let out the order forbidding to the Roman soldiers to get married or become occupied. The emperor believed, that as soon as they married, its soldiers will wish to remain at home, instead of to wage its wars. Valentine has thrown down a challenge to the decree of the Emperor and secretly married young pairs. It at last has been arrested, imprisoned, and eve Lupercalia is executed on February, 14th. Valentine posthumously named sacred. As the Christianity became stronger in Rome, priests moved Lupercalia or a spring holiday from February, 15th till February, 14th, that is, Day sacred Valentine. Since then the holiday has started to honour Sacred Valentine instead of Lupercus.
"From Your Valentine"
According to other history, Valentine was one of the first Christians who has been seized and lasted before the Prefect of Rome and has imprisoned for the help to some Christian martyrs. It cured jailor’s the daughter of blindness while in prison. When the emperor studied about this miracle, it has ordered Valentine's execution. Valentine as speak, has sent jailor’s to the daughter the farewell signed message, "From Your Valentine".
In 1969 as a part bolshego efforts to reduce quantity of sacred days of simply legendary origin, the Church has removed day sacred Valentine as an official holiday from its calendar. Now, on February, 14th it is devoted only Sacred Sirilu and Sacred Methodius. |
